Handling your Artwork

Paper Print

Your paper print will arrive either flat packed or rolled in a tube.  It can be very tempting to pull out your print as soon as you get it, but generally it is safest to get this to your framer as shipped.  Your picture framer will have a professional understanding of how to extract the print from the packaging without damaging it, and this will be done in an environment conducive to not damaging the paper.
Handling of the print should be ideally done with gloves on to protect your natural hand oils from damaging the paper.  If you wish to frame your print yourself, this is an option, whilst saving some money, it will also result in an inferior framing solution that may end up damaging the print in the long term.  I generally recommend to invest in quality, and that means investing in a picture framer.

Metal Print

Upon delivery of your metal print, open the outer carton carefully.  Remove the interior packaged metal print and lay flat on the floor.  It is easiest to cut the plastic bag packaging away, then slide out the metal print.  Be careful when doing this, the aluminium sheet can bend if you are not careful and grab it by a single corner. I always recommend to use two hands on opposite edges when lifting the print, this will ensure no bends in the metal and maintains a beautiful flat surface when hung on the wall.  Be sure to not knock the edges of the prints at all, once they are on the wall they will hang safely for years to come.

Cleaning your Artwork

Framed Paper Print

Your picture framer can better inform you of the do’s and don’ts of cleaning your framed paper print.  The variation in glass and framing materials can determine what cloths or cleaning products are suitable.  Do not assume a specific cleaning product is ok to use on a frame, and finishes can get damaged from certain chemicals.
Do not use window cleaning sprays, kitchen scouring compounds, or solvents such as acetone, gasoline, or lacquer thinner to clean your image, as this may cause permanent damage to your image.

Metal Print

Metal prints are very durable, as so, they are easy to clean.  They tend to not attract dust, and can be easily wiped down with a soft microfibre cloth if needed, avoid using paper towels or coarser type cloths.  If needed you can use warm water or window cleaner to clean off any grime that doesn’t come off with water.  Use the microfibre cloth to wipe away any streaks.
Do not use kitchen scouring compounds, or solvents such as acetone, petrol, or lacquer thinner to clean your image, as this may cause permanent damage to your image.

Recommended Hanging Environment

Paper Prints

It is generally advised to keep the artwork away from direct sunlight, heat and moisture where possible.  For paper prints, it is recommended to use UV Glass in the framing process where possible, spending a bit more money in the framing process will ensure the longevity of your purchase.  Your picture framer will be able to guide you as to more hanging environment specific recommendations given the materials used.
Excessive temperatures and humidity can damage the paper prints resulting in fading, unsightly warping of the paper print within the frame, or twisting of the frame. Most homes aren’t subjected to excessive temperatures and humidity, but good to be aware of potential issues over time if the hanging environment isn’t ideal.

Metal Prints

Metal prints are a great solution to many of the issues resulting from paper prints.  A stable product that is very durable, easily cleanable, scratch and moisture resistance.  Metal prints can be hung just about anywhere in your home, and are suitable for hanging in Kitchens or Bathrooms.  Avoid direct sunlight for prolonged periods of time or excessive heat from fireplaces.  I thoroughly recommend metals prints as my preferred option for aesthetics, longevity and durability.
